Sparrow - minimal mail app.
Dropbox - essential syncing app
Caffeine - should be built-in
Quicksilver - app launcher and all the rest.
I have also other apps that use the menubar, but I would rather keep it minimal.

- I just love the streaming feature, and it is nice and smooth too.
- Insanely useful, I pause my music so often to watch a YouTube video or whatever and forget to put it back on.
- Great tool for my webdesign.
CloudApp - Great for quickly sharing screenshots and files, more convenient than Dropbox in my opinion.
- Again, webdesign.
- I use it to check the time in the US when needed, great utility.
- So I never have to use the website again, I use the chat with iChat.
iChat - Used for Facebook IM and AIM.
AirPort, Battery, Clock and Spotlight - I remove every default menubar item I don’t need, and these are the ones I use all the time.
Hidden:
BetterTouchTool - Great for browsing the web, I have a ton of custom gestures, I can literally browse almost without the mouse or keyboard.
Bowtie - Attractive and sleek way to view your currently playing music on your desktop.

Alfred - Spotlight who?
PhotoSync - No cables recquired! Sync your photos to your iOS devices with ease.
Pastebot Sync - Another great Tapbots app.
Dropbox - I don’t how I could live without this. I use it to sync up all my iDevices & when I’m on the go.
Droplr - A simple drop will do… (see explanation below)
CloudApp - To the Cloud! I share so many links, images, videos, etc. with this it’s second nature.
Bowtie - Simple way to navigate your iTunes music on your desktop in a clean & beautiful way.
Sparrow - My go-to email client on the Mac.
- I’ve tried others but always come back to this because of its many features.
- The best way to get your facebook notifications on your Mac.

QuickCal – Allows me to add appointments to iCal in a pop up window using natural language.
– I should remove this but my ego and fear of missing out won’t allow it. ;-)
Dropbox – This should be built in.
FastScripts – Allows me to execute a few Applescripts I have come to rely on with keyboard commands.
DisplayPad – Lets me use my iPad as a second display over WiFi (Seems like magic. Likely is.)
The rest are built in stuff. Sync, Bluetooth, Airport, Battery, Clock, Spotlight.

I have a thing about B&W only on my menu bar.

BootChamp (for one click booting into windows)
System:
Keychain (for quick locking and lockup)
iChat (why)
Spaces

from the App Store, myTunesController for when I’m hooked up to my external monitor, mouse and keyboard, Keychain Access to lock my screen, Spaces, Monitor, and the Basic stuff. (From Tyler Perkins)
Adium - The best Mac IM client for multiple protocols. It’s also highly customizable.
- New mail client based loosely on the Tweetie interface. I’m still attached to Mail.app, but Sparrow is a very interesting new take on e-mail. I especially like the Quick-Look-esque message viewing.
- The official Twitter app for the Mac, formerly known as Tweetie.
Caffeine - The app to keep your Mac awake. It keeps your computer from entering sleep mode. I use a custom icon that fits in a little better with the others.
CloudApp - This app is the easiest way to share files and photos. Drag them onto the menubar icon to instantly upload. The link is copied to the clipboard automatically.
Carbonite - Awesome online backup.
Keychain Access - Lock your screen and/or keychains easily. Turn this on from the Keychain Access utility’s preferences.
Spaces - OS X’s virtual desktops. I use four. I almost never move between spaces using the menubar icon, but it’s a good indicator to see what space you are on at all times.
Time Machine - Apple’s backup utility. I recommend using it together with SuperDuper, which makes bootable backups of your entire disk.
Airport - For connecting to wireless networks.
Volume - For adjusting … volume (or seeing what level it’s currently adjusted to).
Input menu - I often switch between English and Chinese Pinyin input, so I need to see which I’m currently on (although I use the keyboard shortcut to switch). This is also good for opening the character viewer or keyboard viewer. You can turn this on by going to the “Input Sources” tab in the “Language & Text” preference pane.
Battery - Pretty self-explanatory.
Clock - I’ve turned on both the day of the week and the date.
Spotlight - I actually don’t use Spotlight all that much. In the past, it has mainly been replaced by Quicksilver or Launchbar, but I now use Alfred (with the “Powerpack”) for all my launching and file-finding needs.
