Skitch: For capturing screen-shots.
QuickCal: I use less because I want to see my appointments and more because I was an early user of 30boxes on the web and loved the ability to write an english language appointment, e.g. Oil Change tomorrow at 9am.
TypeIt4Me:There are plenty of apps that do what TypeIt4Me does, but I’ve used this for a while and it never lets me down. I use it for two main purposes, shortcut typing and correcting my spelling on words that I often misspell. So if I have to type in my Gmail address, I created a shortcut and I just type m-y-g-m without the hyphens and it changes to my actual email address.
Dropbox: I think everyone has Dropbox at this point.
SizeUp: Easily size up your windows into half or quarter of a screen via keyboard shortcuts. Super handy.
Pastebot: I use this to paste something from my Mac that I want to use on my iPhone or iPad rather than type it out.
Spirited Away: Set which apps you want to fade away in the background after a certain period of not using them.
Pomodoro: I just started this a couple months ago and find it helpful. Work for 25 minutes, play for 5, repeat.
Hazel: Folder automated actions. I use this to monitor clean up my several folders including my downloads, desktop, and images.
Caffeine: I use this one constantly. Turns off all screensaver and screen shut-off actions.
LogMeIn: Log in to my Mac from my iPad.
: Turn my iPad into another display of my Mac.
: I attempt to send all my notifications through Growl so I can turn them all of at once when I wish and they all show up in the same spot when I leave them on.
MobileMe: I sync my contacts, calendar and assorted other mac pieces to mobile me, including my photos.
Time Machine: In addition to using Crashplan and Dropbox, I have at-home backup using Time Machine to a 500gb external hard drive.
Spaces: My on-again off-again love affair with Spaces is on again. I do most of my daily work in Space 1, leave Omnifocus by itself in Space 2, put all my music and chat in Space 3, and all my writing e.g. Scrivener, TextMate in Space 4.
Assorted Apple stuff: Bluetooth, Wi-fi, Volume, Battery, Time, Eject Drive, Accounts and Spotlight, which unlike many other people, works really well for me.

Current iTunes info - What’s playing on iTunes right now with controls as a dropdown menu so I don’t have to go to iTunes.
Sparrow - Gmail client, I just downloaded it after seeing it here and I have several Gmail accounts and it makes it convenient to juggle through them.
Evernote - Keeps random pieces of info organized. I use it as a bookmark archive for links that I want to remember for later use someday, and it works across all my gadgets (iPad, Android, etc.).
Dropbox - Great sync tool.
TinyAlarm 1.3 - Mini alarm app that lets you set up short alarms. I use it wake me up from my computer haze / daze
: I use for Gmail, but now with Sparrow I don’t think I will be needing it.
Little Snitch - Firewall, one of the best Mac personal firewalls IMO.
Camouflage - Hides cluttered desktop. Makes my mac look neat.
Caffeine - Disables sleep and screensaver when clicked. Sometimes you need your mac to stay awake. I use it a lot.
Chat Status - I swear, I found it there. I didn’t install anything to have it there.
VPN Access - To connect to the corporate network.
Sync - To sync to multiple devices/services (I didn’t install anything, it came with the Mac).
Airport - Wi-Fi signal.
Spaces - Spaces preference to choose different screens.
Time Machine - Used for backups, I never backed my computers until I started using Time Machine, it makes the effort painless.
Bluetooth
Sound Control
Display Detector
Battery status
Keyboard Preference - I use Arabic and English keyboards.
Switch Users - To quickly switch between different users.
MiniCal - Mini calendar app that shows you the month calendar in a drop down.
Spotlight
(From )
Flux - Adjusts the temperature of the screen colors for easy nighttime viewing
Geektool - Adds functionality to your desktop (weather, date, CPU data, etc.)
Last.fm - Scrobbles my iTunes to my Last.fm profile
Orangered - Lets me know I’m popular on reddit!
Dropbox - A cloud flashdrive
McAfee - Don’t really need it, but my school offers a license
Caffeine - Will prevent the screen from dimming or going to sleep when enabled
Quicksilver - Spotlight on steroids
Then the Apple ones: Spaces, Displays, Time Machine, Airport, Volume, Bluetooth, Battery, Clock, and Spotlight.

Adium - The best Mac IM client for multiple protocols. It’s also highly customizable.
- New mail client based loosely on the Tweetie interface. I’m still attached to Mail.app, but Sparrow is a very interesting new take on e-mail. I especially like the Quick-Look-esque message viewing.
- The official Twitter app for the Mac, formerly known as Tweetie.
Caffeine - The app to keep your Mac awake. It keeps your computer from entering sleep mode. I use a custom icon that fits in a little better with the others.
CloudApp - This app is the easiest way to share files and photos. Drag them onto the menubar icon to instantly upload. The link is copied to the clipboard automatically.
Carbonite - Awesome online backup.
Keychain Access - Lock your screen and/or keychains easily. Turn this on from the Keychain Access utility’s preferences.
Spaces - OS X’s virtual desktops. I use four. I almost never move between spaces using the menubar icon, but it’s a good indicator to see what space you are on at all times.
Time Machine - Apple’s backup utility. I recommend using it together with SuperDuper, which makes bootable backups of your entire disk.
Airport - For connecting to wireless networks.
Volume - For adjusting … volume (or seeing what level it’s currently adjusted to).
Input menu - I often switch between English and Chinese Pinyin input, so I need to see which I’m currently on (although I use the keyboard shortcut to switch). This is also good for opening the character viewer or keyboard viewer. You can turn this on by going to the “Input Sources” tab in the “Language & Text” preference pane.
Battery - Pretty self-explanatory.
Clock - I’ve turned on both the day of the week and the date.
Spotlight - I actually don’t use Spotlight all that much. In the past, it has mainly been replaced by Quicksilver or Launchbar, but I now use Alfred (with the “Powerpack”) for all my launching and file-finding needs.
