BetterTouchTool - An incredibly useful tool that helps me get the most out of my Magic Mouse/Trackpad. I currently have it configured for window-snapping (like in Windows 7), and pinch to minimize/maximize my windows.
- A very useful IM client, the one I use the most.
Twitterrific - My preferred Twitter client. I like it because of its clean, sleek, minimalistic interface; as well as the choice of colours. Helpful navigation buttons are also there to get me where I need to be quickly- whether it be messages, profile etc.
Last.fm - Scrobbles stuff I listen to; I only use it to scrobble music I’ve played on my iPhone or iPad.
ManyCam - Very useful webcam control. I can set this as 1 input to anything that uses video or webcam. I can then set the webcam source to a picture, video, etc. I use this a fair amount.
Dropbox - For syncing files on the cloud. Acts as a 2nd USB drive for me, useful for transferring and sharing files.
Bowtie - Clean, out of the way, minimalistic interface. I use this for scrobbling things I listen to in iTunes to Last.fm.
Alfred - Search for files quickly; much better and faster to use than Spotlight search. Also more minimalistic, key commands very useful.
CloudApp - I use this to upload screenshots, pictures etc. Very clean, sleek web interface. Auto-copies the picture link to my clipboard which is useful.
DisplayPad - A great app. I can use this to extend my display to my iPad; using it as a 2nd, 3rd etc monitor. Very low latency- even though it uses WiFi!
WiFi2HiFi - Brilliant streaming app. Sometimes can be out of time, but can be useful in a lot of situations!
LogMeIn - Remote Desktop app. Free, which is great. Works well with mac- speedy and responsive.
Facebook Notifications - I can see what’s going on on Facebook without opening my browser!
iChat - Set chat status, etc. Quite useful.
Bluetooth - I mainly use this just to connect my Magic Mouse, and it tells me whether the battery needs replacing.
AirPort - Default WiFi on the Mac, shows what base station I’m connected to + signal strength etc.
Volume control - I normally use this with the ‘Option’ key, so I can quickly change audio inputs/outputs.
Battery Indicator - I just stuck with the Apple indicator, with battery percentage.
Character/Keyboard viewer - helpful when entering characters with accents on them etc.
Time - Plain and simple- the time, with seconds and the day.
Fast User Switching - I don’t use this to fast user switch, but just to lock my Mac.
Spotlight Search - searching for things on my Mac. It still has its uses (ie a calculator), but I normally prefer to use Alfred instead (see above).

Sophos Antivirus - there are viruses and malware designed for all OSes
Evernote - great way to record notes
Caffeine - great for keeping the screen awake
The rest is just standard Mac stuff.
Here are few things, that I have hidden from the menu bar — there is way too much stuff already:
Alfred - quick access / search anything
TextExpander - replaces texts while typing for quick text typing
Moom - window management tool
Witch - replaces Cmd+Tab with extended features (mainly restores minimized windows when switching)
TotalFinder - extend Finder functionality
Visor - docks terminal Quake style

There are a couple missing, Sparrow and Skype, I removed Divvy and replaced with Moom, replaced Grooveshark with Radium, and went back from Evernote to Notational Velocity.

Mailplane - my e-mail client of choice
OmniFocus - managing all my tasks and projects there
- amazing desktop app for the ReadItLater service (similar to Instapaper, but better)
- I tried bunch of other Twitter apps and came back to the official one. It’s neat and gets the work done
Dropbox - I was a SugarSync user for a while, but now I’m using Dropbox for all my current documents and keep SugarSync for long-term archives (due to its flexible selective sync features)
- I’m working a lot with people overseas, so I need IM and VOIP a lot
TextExpander - I didn’t understand for a long time why people use text-expanding apps, but once I started to use one - there’s no turning back. It’s SO good!
RescueTime - this is a new app for me, I’m trying to be more conscious about how I’m spending my time and RescueTime keeps track of all my computer activities
Pomodoro - amazing Pomodoro timer that is integrated with OmniFocus and helps me to work on my tasklist in short 25-min bursts
Isolator - another productivity app that helps me to focus on one app at a time
Cinch - simple window manager that allows me to quickly arrange windows side by side
gfxCardStatus - controls which videocard is used when I’m plugged in and which when I’m running on battery. It really helps to save battery a lot
CalendarBar - all of my calendars (yes I have more than one) are on Google and I tried to use many calendaring apps and frankly this little gem does 90% of what I need
f.lux - really saves my poor eyes when I work late at night
Caffeine - I rarely use it, but sometimes when you’re watching videos or making a presentation it’s indispensable
Transmit - FTP/S3 client of choice
Evernote - I’m a big fan and use it to store lots of reference materials
Spaces
iStat Menus - configured to show time, battery and CPU, with a bunch of other information available through a drop-down menu
Language Bar - I’m bi-lingual, so I switch a lot between English and Russian
Every other default icon (except Spaces) including Spotlight (I use Launchbar anyway) is removed since I either don’t need it or have a better alternative.

My menu bar is not so radical, I like to have the original Battery, AirPort and Bluetooth icons… but for me Dropbox, CloudApp and are also must haves. The other useful icons are Jumpcut, Little Snitch and of course some from iStat Menus (Network monitor, CPU monitor, and the battery percentage).

Path Finder: Finder replacement. I like the dual pane file browser and the drop stack.

GeekTool: Display the output of shell commands on your desktop. My favorite customization tool.
TinyAlarm: Simple alarm. I’ve had it for years.
TinyCal: Another menubar item that I’ve had for many years. Like TinyAlarm, its simplicity charms me.
WiFi2HiFi: Stream music wirelessly to your iOS device.
GrabBox: Simple screenshot sharing. Syncs with Dropbox.
SimpleText: I use it in conjunction with Notational Velocity, an app that made me completely rethink how I write on a Mac.
Boxcar: Notifications.
Notify: I live in Gmail. Sparrow is nice but too simple.
CuteClips: Clipboard history manager. I need to change to something with more features but I haven’t gotten around to it.

SlimBatteryMonitor: Good-looking space-saver.
Air Display: I use my iPad as a second monitor while I’m working.
Bluetooth: To connect to my Magic Mouse, an Apple product that I both loath and love.

Teleport - A tool that allows me to control my Mac Mini that sits right next to my MBP in a sort of dual screen environment.
Caffeine - Great tool to keep your computer awake without having to go into settings each time!
