: My favorite Mac Twitter client, I don’t have it open all the time but often enough to warrant inclusion in my Mac Menu Bar Post. I only let the bird light up blue if there are new @replies or new DMs.
Timing: The latest addition to my Menu Bar is Timing. It’s a utility app that runs just in the Menu Bar and keeps track of where you’re spending time on your computer. The app does all the heavy lifting of tracking what apps I’m active in, what websites I’m spending time on, and more. Then I can bundle those apps into “projects” (or categories, as I consider them) of work. You have to give Timing a few weeks to really get some good useful stats that you can look over in aggregate to see how you are spending your time, where you’re spending it, and if there are certain apps or websites you need to be more conscious of in order to be more focused and productive.
Dropbox: I keep it monochrome and am on the fence about if I actually prefer to not have it in the Menu Bar or not. I like seeing that everything in Dropbox on my Mac is up to date, but that’s about all I use the Menu Bar icon for.
Droplr: I use this for uploading screenshots, sharing files, and shortening URLs. It’s a great utility app and runs very quickly. Also, I have the keyboard shortcut set to CTRL+OPT+CMD+D to enable “Droplrizing” whatever URL or file I have selected at the time.
Fantastical: I’m a big fan of this nimble yet powerful calendar app. CMD+OPT+C brings it up and I can quickly toss in a new event using Fantastical’s natural language parser, and I can quickly see the month at a glance and what events are on my plate for today and tomorrow. For the times I need full-fledged calendar I use BusyCal.
Airport Networks: I’m sure I could get by without Airport status showing in the Menu Bar but I really like to have that quick-visual status update on if I’m connected, how strong the signal is, and if I need to quickly re-boot Wi-Fi.
Battery Status: Same as Airport networks, I like to see about how much battery I’ve got.
Clock: For seeing what time it is.
Spotlight: For searching for documents. Since I use LaunchBar to launch applications, bookmarks, and even navigate to folders, I do not use Spotlight all that often. There are tricks to remove the Spotlight icon but when I do use spotlight I prefer using it up there in the top-right corner – especially with its improvements in Lion.
What you don’t see:
TextExpander: By default TextExpander runs with an icon in the Menu Bar but you don’t have to have it there. It can be handy if you have many, many snippets that you don’t remember the shortcuts to and so you can access them by clicking on the Menu Bar icon. But I prefer to let TextExpander run in the background and if/when I need to access it I do so via LaunchBar.

CloudApp & Droplr: Sharing documents and other files. CloudApp has a great link shortening feature (I use the keyboard wherever possible) but is limited to 25MB files. Droplr also has the much better iPhone app.
Dropbox: Using it with 1Password, PKGBackup, and other things that should be stored and accessed wherever possible. Also great photo gallery implementation for simple photo sharing
Adium: The one and only IM
: For displaying the current track
ControlPlane: Automatically switch location by rules (‘WG’ is the German abbreveation for ‘flat share’ though)
TextExpander: Save your time - use TextExpander!
Blast: Keeps track of my recently changed/opened/created files. Very good when I’m downloading tons of documents for university
Evernote: Note taking accessible over Mac, iPhone and internet
Caffeine: Prevents my Mac from falling asleep
SlimBatteryMonitor: Does what the name suggests
Then the usual: Wi-Fi, Bluetooth (with MagicMouse connected), Time Machine (damn! how I hate that exclamation mark appearing on Lion when not backing up for 30min), Clock and Spotlight.
I got some other apps running like Alfred, Default Folder X, BetterTouchTool and Divvy. I would have put them into the menu bar but the problem is my Mac being a MB13,3inch model. Therefore space on the menubar is rare.

: For my TV shows delight. It automatically downloads the .torrent file and opens my torrent download client when a new favorite show appears in the net.
Adium: My favorite IM client. Using the Marten-Plain White menu bar icons set.
Sparrow: Best desktop Gmail client. Period.
Skitch: I love Skitch for quick capturing and sketch notes. I use in conjuntion with Droplr (see below) because I prefer a shared image page without much clutter.
Alfred: Applications launcher on steroids. I really like the command customization, and the Powerpack rocks!
Dropbox: Should I describe it?
Droplr: It let you store images, files, texts and short URLs by just dragging anything to the menubar icon. I mostly use it with Skitch to capture -> drag -> get link.
PasteBot: Copy and paste directly to my iOS devices.
: Only for quickly adding events/reminders to my Google Calendar, I don’t use the Gmail notifier because Sparrow manages it just fine.
Typinator: A really useful text expander tool, for quick snippets and signatures.
MagicPrefs: Enhanced functionality for my Magic Mouse and Macbook Pro trackpad. Haven’t tried other alternatives, but it works amazingly.
Evernote: Love to have everything stored in one place. Even my bills and tickets. Syncing with all my devices is the best thing.
Caffeine: Because my Mac also needs a dose.
: Very cool alarm clock with nice features like use your own music, and less intrusive than Awaken. And best of all, free!
Radium: Best online radio player for Mac. Only lives in your menubar, no useless windows. Just plays the radio and also scrobbles to Last.fm.
And the Apple ones: Time Machine, Bluetooth, Airport, Sound, Battery, Hour and Spotlight.

I keep my menu bar very minimalistic and with only a few very useful applications. I love minimalism.
Droplr - Image / file hosting application.
Spotlight - You should know what this is.

Dropbox - online storage, file sharing, data syncing (syncs 1Password across my Macs and iPhone)
Droplr - I use it for uploading pics and screenshots to numerous places
CloudApp - same as Droplr but I use this more and it has a nice web interface as well
ShoveBox - has become my go to notes/snippet keeper. Had it for almost a year before I really started using it but happy I did.
Caffeine - keeps my MacBook Pro awake
MainMenu - great utility to fix permissions, force quit apps, eject volumes, clear cache, and tons more
iStat Menus - I use it for battery because of the drop down it provides that has all my diagnostic info as well
Standard AirPort, Volume, Clock and Spotlight

I see most of the menu bars are quite short, so I’ve decided to submit mine:
xScope - To measure stuff on the screen when designing.
BetterTouchTool - The #1 utility if you own Magic Mouse / Magic Trackpad or MacBook.
Adium - #1 Mac Chat software. Allows me to stay in touch with my team via .
OmniFocus - The best GTD Mac software, I use it to keep my to dos and keep them synced between devices.
Pomodoro - Best Pomodoro Technique timer to stay productive by splitting task into chunks.
Emcee - Answers the “What’s playing?” question (Bit crazy that it’s $3 now, I got it for free before the Mac App Store).
Radium - Sometimes I just want to listen to something without bothering too much.
- To watch my stuff on iPad in bed.
Droplr - To quickly share screenshots with my team and other people in Adium.
Blast - Allows me to quickly access files and folders just changed.
Dropbox - Everybody knows Dropbox, right? Sync files between computers, devices and share with people.
Launch it! - Allows me to launch apps with a single hotkey. A very missing feature in Mac OS X.
Little Snitch - Firewall.
Size Up - To control windows from the keyboard. I am proud to say that I helped to develop it.
Evernote - Notebook synched between devices.
iStat Menus - RAM, CPU Temp, Fan Speed and CPU Load.
Time Machine, Bluetooth, Airport, Volume, Language - Built-in Mac OS X tools.
iStat Menus - Again this time to replace the flawed Mac OS X clock, this one gives me calendar access when I click it, not to mention a nicer menubar layout.
Fast Users Switching - Built-in.
Also I have KeyRemap4MacBook running to remap some buttons on the keyboard. Actually I switch Keyboard Layouts using single left/right shift presses and remap cmd-space to cmd-shift-space to get rid of that awful Snow Leopard language swtich. The icon for KeyMap is removed from the menubar because it has a nice Preference Pane built-in.

QuickCal - Possibly my favorite application. Allows me add tasks and events to my calendar without ever opening iCal.
- I rarely visit Twitter.com these days. With this app, there is just no need to. Control/Option/Command/T (^⌥⌘T) opens up a new tweet box. The menu bar icon lights up blue whenever I receive a notification. Tweets appear in the bottom-right corner via . It’s as simple as that.
Sparrow - My personal and school email are consolidated into one Gmail account, which I access via Sparrow. Like Twitter for Mac, the menu bar icon lights up blue whenever I receive a notification.
Dropbox - An easy way to sync files online between multiple computers.
Droplr - The easiest way to share files online. Just drag a file to the Droplr icon in the menu bar and it spits out a URL that you can share with people.
F.lux - Automatically adjusts your computer screen’s color after sunset for optimal viewing comfort. Great app. Highly recommended.
- This menu bar icon lights up blue whenever I receive a notification. Then and only then do I visit Facebook.com. ^⌥⌘space allows me to update my status right from my desktop.

Itsy - Simple Twitter client. No explanation needed, really.
QuickCursor - Utility to edit text from any application in an external editor. I usually use this one to edit things in MacVim.
Droplr - Tool for uploading files and shortening links. I usually use this one when I have an image to share.
Spirited Away - Hides applications after they haven’t been used for a while. I have the hide timeout set to one minute, it keeps my screen clean.
After that, I just have some builtin things. Such as battery, AirPort status, keyboard layout switcher, time, and Time Machine. (Nope, no Spotlight. I use Alfred for that.)

Pastebot Sync - Another great Tapbots app.
Dropbox - I don’t how I could live without this. I use it to sync up all my iDevices & when I’m on the go.
Droplr - A simple drop will do… (see explanation below)
CloudApp - To the Cloud! I share so many links, images, videos, etc. with this it’s second nature.
Bowtie - Simple way to navigate your iTunes music on your desktop in a clean & beautiful way.
Sparrow - My go-to email client on the Mac.
